DEODORODeodoro Olympic Park is the second-largest Games cluster and promises a vibrant mix of traditional and newer sports throughout its nine venuesDEODORO AQUATICS CENTREThe pool inside the Deodoro Aquatics Centre has been renovated and will host the swimming element of the modern pentathlon competition. A temporary grandstand has been built for the event.DEODORO STADIUMThe newly-laid pitch at the temporary Deodoro Stadium will provide the battleground for the much-anticipated Olympic debut of rugby, and will also stage the horse riding and combined elements of the modern pentathlon competition. OLYMPIC EQUESTRIAN CENTREA new cross-country course and veterinary hospital have been added to this refurbished venue, with the expanded stables expected to host 315 horses for the equestrian events.INSIDE THE X-PARKÉ The more extreme sports will take place in Deodoro’s X-Park, which after the Games will become the city’s second-largest public leisure area, serving roughly 1.5 million people in a region with a high concentration of youngsters lacking such facilitiesMOUNTAIN BIKE CENTREThe 4.9km course has been designed to reflect the topography of the city, with challenging features including the ÒFlip-FlopsÓ and ÒDowntownÓ, made using rocks from a local quarry. Fans will be able to view the races from different stages of the course at this spectator-friendly venue.OLYMPIC BMX CENTREThe 400m course has been built out of grit with a thin layer of asphalt on the bends, and features a series of jumps, obstacles and tight bends for riders to negotiate. After the Games, the track will be maintained for the local community as a sporting and recreational facility.WHITEWATER STADIUMThe thrilling spectacle of canoe slalom will take place on the rapids of a new 250m course. As well as offering facilities for high-performance sport after the Games, elements of the venue will be turned into a vast lake for public use.OLYMPIC HOCKEY CENTREDeodoro is home to Brazil’s national hockey teams, and the new Olympic Hockey Centre will leave a legacy of improved facilities for the sport. The state-of-the-art pitch, with its blue surface, green border, white lines and yellow ball, has been designed to give a distinctly Brazilian feel to the Olympic competitions.OLYMPIC SHOOTING CENTREOne of three venues within Deodoro Olympic Park that existed before the Games, the Olympic Shooting Centre has been used extensively as an elite training facility and required minimal modifications.YOUTH ARENAThe Youth Arena, which has a mix of temporary and permanent seating, will stage the fencing element of the modern pentathlon competition Ð ensuring that the five components of the sport all happen within easy walking distance for both athletes and spectators.
