Cumbria DFAS raises money for fl ood reliefBearsden & Milngavie volunteers start a new chapter in historic libraryANNIVERSARIESCLAREMONT DFASClaremont DFAS celebrated its 40th anniversary with a ‘Ruby Day’. Members enjoyed a lecture in the morning, given by Susan Rumfi tt, entitled ‘A Passion for Rubies’. Special guest at the party was Margaret Flory, the founder Chairman. MALVERN HILLS DFASMalvern Hills DFAS celebrated its 40th Anniversary with an evening reception at The Museum of Royal Worcester. National Chairman June Robinson and Henry Sandon from the BBC Antiques Roadshow were special guests. There was an exhibition of the Society’s voluntary projects, including the conservation of the Royal Worcester pattern books. PETERBOROUGH DFASPeterborough DFAS has celebrated its 40th anniversary and marked the occasion with a special lunch. Guest of honour was Shelagh Smith, Chair of Vivacity, Peterborough, who is responsible for the promotion of arts in the city. ARDEN DFASArden DFAS in Solihull has celebrated its 20th anniversary. National Chairman June Robinson was present at the lecture, which included a Sparkling Tea Party to mark the occasion. GORING DFASGoring DFAS celebrated its 30th anniversary in June. Members were delighted to be joined by June Robinson (National Chairman) and Pamela Elder (Wyvern Area Chairman) at a celebratory lunch and lecture on Italy.The Camberley DFAS Young Arts group has brought together the work of 11 local primary and infant schools for an exhibition entitled Spring Magic. The schools were enthusiastic and not only sent the artwork, but also walked children to the exhibition so that they could share the excitement and wonder at seeing their own work, and that of their peers, being displayed.Helen Gregson, Camberley DFAS Young Arts Representative said: “We were thrilled by the Camberley fi nds Spring MagicCumbria is still suffering from the after-effects of the December fl oods, so Cumbria DFAS was delighted when Ann Clements, the NADFAS-accredited Lecturer who delivered the January lecture, kindly offered to return for free in order to raise funds for fl ood relief. The Society booked a venue in Keswick for the event; as well as raising money, Cumbria DFAS used the lecture to publicise the work of NADFAS and attract new members.Heritage Volunteers from Bearsden & Milngavie DFAS are continuing their work cleaning and helping to preserve the collections at The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (pictured below). The collection has 30,000 volumes and the earliest dates from 1491. Work commenced in September 2014 – and has been ongoing ever since. Since completion of the Lister Room, this small and happy group of volunteers have continued their vital work in the Lower Library.Meanwhile, a group of Church Recorders from the Society are recording the New Kilpatrick parish church in Bearsden.quality and diversity of the work that was submitted. We included video displays and had music in different parts of the hall to explain the visual images and sounds that had stimulated some of the work.“Teachers were delighted to have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas, and the exhibition seemed to be successful in so many different ways that we are hoping it may happen again in 2018!”Above: A collage of night animals created by primary pupilsTo celebrate HM The Queen’s 90th birthday, 90 members of Shrewsbury DFAS were invited to join the Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Sir Algernon Heber-Percy, and Lady Heber-Percy at Hodnet Hall. With the support of the Heber-Percys, members were asked to make a small donation towards a Queen’s Birthday Bursary. Over £2,300 was raised, which will be awarded to a young person embarking on a career in the decorative arts.
