The trio have cared for the books in the club’s magnifi cent Barry Library for more than 20 years. The lunch was hosted by Roger Westbrook, Chairman of the Travellers Club, who thanked the volunteers and praised their contribution. Alan Bergman, who was instrumental in starting the project, was present and thanked the Chairman for his hospitality as well as referring to all previous volunteers who have helped at the library. Some 80 members from across the West Midlands Area and beyond spent a special interest day at the National Trust (NT) property Croome Court, near Worcester, to mark the tercentenary of the birth of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, who was employed by the sixth Earl of Coventry to design both the house and grounds. Dr Tom Duncan enlightened and entertained the group with two very comprehensive, thought-provoking and amusing lectures. The somewhat subdued mood was soon dispelled under the infl uence of music from the bagpipes played by a Scots piper in full regalia.A mystery 90-year-old guest added further excitement – speculation was rife that a well-preserved lady of worldwide fame and excellent character would attend… and at last a Tin Lizzy, driven by the Director of the nearby Veteran Car Museum (who also happens to be a long-time member of the Society), made her appearance! This international gathering was a strong affi rmation of the deep-rooted ties forged within this mainly Anglo-German Society. With the support of NADFAS it will survive and continue to thrive in future years. Costa del Sol DFAS in Spain has made a number of donations to ADIMI, a local charity that assists the personal development and social integration of disabled young people. With the support of three professional artists, the Society arranged and funded a series of drawing and painting workshops for 30 of ADIMI’s young people, on the theme of the local community. Some 70 drawings and paintings were created. The subsequent exhibition in ADIMI’s new centre in Mijas attracted the press, TV and the mayor to the opening. The delight and pride shown by the young artists and their parents when seeing the colourful paintings on the walls was heart warming.
