COPACABANAThe world-famous neighbourhood of Copacabana is defined by its 4km-long crescent-shaped beach, and will stage seven sports in four breathtaking outdoor venuesBEACH VOLLEYBALL ARENASituated on the golden sands of Copacabana, the Beach Volleyball Arena will provide one of the memorable locations at the Games, with the sounds of samba and bossa nova set to sustain the party atmosphere across 13 days of competition.FORT COPACABANAThe natural outdoor theatre of Fort Copacabana will be the stage for the triathlon and the cycling road race Ð which will also stretch out to Recreio and Prainha, and will require the largest road closure and diversion operation in the cityÕs history Ð while the open waters of the Atlantic shore will provide a stern test for the marathon swimmers.LAGOA STADIUMThe rowing and canoe sprint events will take place on the waters of the heart-shaped Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon, which will provide athletes and spectators with a spectacular backdrop of the Tijuca National Forest and the Christ the Redeemer statue.MARINA DA GLîRIAClose to Flamengo Park and framed by Botafogo Beach, Sugarloaf Mountain and the Rio-Niter—i bridge, the expanded and modernised Marina da Gl—ria will be a striking venue for the sailing events.
