That was very, very nice of him. I can hardly believe it.”That same spirit could also be felt at the spectacular Vikingskipet Olympic Hall, on the banks of the frozen Lake Mjøsa in Hamar, where speed skaters ÔI CANÕT BELIEVE I WON THE GOLD. IT WAS WONDERFUL WORKING WITH ATHLETES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES AND TALKING WITH THEMÕSUMIYA BUYANTOGTOKH (MGL), SPEED SKATING GOLD MEDALLISTcontested the mixed NOC team sprint for the first time at the YOG. The new event saw 13 teams of two men and two women from different NOCs grouped together, with the team consisting of Italy’s Noemi Bonazza, China’s Shen Hanyang, the Republic of Korea’s men’s 500m bronze medallist Jae Woong, and Sumiya Buyantogtokh of Mongolia, winning the 1.6km race in 1 minute 57.85 seconds. The victory made Buyantogtokh the first Mongolian athlete to win a medal at any Olympic Winter Games.“I can’t believe I won the gold,” she said. “I’m very proud. It was wonderful working with athletes from other countries and talking with them.”The Republic of Korea dominated the other speed skating events, with Kim Min-seok winning both the men’s mass start and the 1,500m, and Park Ji-woo repeating the same double in the women’s events. The women’s 500m, meanwhile, was won by Kim Min-sun, whose victory led to comparisons with two-time Olympic 500m champion Lee Sang-hwa.Kai Xiang Chew Malaysia, figure skatingMission accomplished!!
