OLYMPIC REVIEW 19DJOKOVIC AND WILLIAMS ON TOP OF THE WORLDFor the second year running, in December 2015 the USA’s Serena Williams and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic were named World Champions of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). It was the sixth title for Williams and the fifth for Djokovic, who won six Grand Slam events between them in 2015. Switzerland’s Martina Hingis and India’s Sania Mirza won the Women’s Doubles award, while the Netherlands’ Jean-Julien Rojer and Romania’s Horia Tecău took the Men’s Doubles award. The Junior category awards were won by Hungary’s Dalma Gálfi and the USA’s Taylor Fritz, while the Netherlands’ Jiske Griffioen and Japan’s Shingo Kunieda triumphed in the wheelchair tennis category. The 2017 Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships and the 2018 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships will be held in Sofia (Bulgaria), while the city of Antwerp (Belgium) will host the 2018 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships.Above Glasgow hosted the 2015 World ChampionshipsNEWS IN BRIEFISAF becomes World Sailing In December, the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) officially changed its name to “World Sailing”. More transparency, better communication, stronger governance and greater accountability are the four main aims of the new leadership team, and the rebrand to World Sailing is designed to represent the IF’s commitment to those aims. As well as a new look, a new motto – “A Sport for Life” – has been announced, and is intended to reinforce the team’s dedication to the whole world of sailing.UCI launches men’s world road cycling rankingsIn January, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) launched a new UCI World Ranking for men’s professional road cycling – similar to that already in place for women’s professional road cycling – to be published in parallel with the UCI WorldTour Ranking. The UCI World Ranking was published for the first time on 11 January, and will be updated once a week, each Monday, taking into account the results of the 52 previous weeks.
