Before the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) get underway in Buenos Aires, some of the key questions surrounding the role of sport in society will be discussed at the inaugural Olympism in Action Forum. A direct outcome of recommendation 39 of Olympic Agenda 2020 to “Foster dialogue with society and within the Olympic Movement”, the two-day forum will welcome 2,000 participants and 50 speakers to the Argentinian capital. Their brief will be to address the challenges and opportunities in building a better world through sport. Among those taking part will be international sports personalities, Heads of State, United Nations (UN) offi cials, Nobel Laureates and experts in the fi elds of business, education, health and culture. The event will use innovative formats to encourage audience participation, and will be both inclusive and transparent, with a high percentage of youth and women speakers. All of the sessions will be streamed live and open to the media. In organising the forum, the IOC’s main objectives are to support and adjust the implementation of the Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms, and to showcase how sport and the Olympic Movement can contribute to the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. As such, the content structure will be aligned with the three pillars of Olympic Agenda 2020 – credibility, sustainability and youth – the last of which will be discussed on the second day of the forum, drawing global attention to the YOG ahead of the Opening Ceremony. “Promoting the role of sport in society is a team effort, for which we need an open exchange of the best ideas,” says IOC President Thomas Bach, who believes holding the two events together is a perfect match. “Together, we can change the future of sport.” ■OLYMPISM IN ACTION FORUMOn 5-6 October 2018, Buenos Aires will host the fi rst-ever Olympism in Action Forum, which will bring together an illustrious ensemble of thought-leaders – both from within the Olympic Movement, and outside it – to discuss how to build a better world through sportBelowThe Olympism in Action Forum will discuss and promote the role of sport in society56 OLYMPIC REVIEW BUENOS AIRES 2018
