CURLING MIXED DOUBLESIn addition to the men’s and women’s competitions, which are contested by teams of four curlers, the action at the Gangneung Curling Centre will also include mixed doubles, where teams composed of one man and one woman will compete for medals. This is another event that featured in Lillehammer – further highlighting the YOG’s reputation as a testing ground for future Olympic sports – and will be one of seven mixed events in PyeongChang, a record for the Olympic Winter Games.ALPINE SKIING NATIONS TEAM EVENTHaving made its world championship debut in 2005, this will be the first mixed gender Alpine skiing event in Olympic history, and will see teams of two men and two women from 16 National Olympic Committees compete in head-to-head slalom. “It has been a favourite among fans and athletes in our World Cup calendar for a while now,” says Jenny Wiedeke, communications manager for the International Ski Federation. “I think even the most casual of viewers will find the event exciting with its short, quick runs and knock-out style format.”OLYMPIC REVIEW 47ONE YEAR TO GO
