ITU ANNOUNCES ATHLETES’ COMMITTEEThe International TriathlonUnion (ITU) has confirmed its newly elected Athletes’ Committee, which includes 10 representatives from nine countries. “Athletes have been an integral part of the decision-making process since the ITU was founded nearly 30 years ago,” said ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado. “I’m very pleased to see a diverse range of athletes on the committee, with a wide breadth of experience. I look forward to working with them to make triathlon even better.”The elected members will serve as liaisons between athletes, ITU staff and the ITU Executive Board. Athletes, who will hold the position for a term of two years, were elected by their peers through an anonymous and secure online voting system.Returning to the committee to serve another term are Olympians Ai Ueda (JPN) and Jessica Harrison (FRA) as well as Paralympian Clare Cunningham (GBR).The Athletes’ Committee is comprised of 10 athletes from a minimum of three continents with equal representation from men and women. Any athlete who had points on the ITU Points List or ITU Paratriathlon Points List within the past four years was eligible to be nominated. The ITU Athletes’ Committee receives two votes at the ITU Congress and one vote on the Executive Board.In November, World Rugby opened the Hall of Fame, a new state-of-the-art experience in the sport’s birthplace – the town of Rugby in Great Britain.Using the latest HD touch-screen technology, the free-of-charge immersive experience will offer visitors an inspirational journey through time as the game – from its humble origins to its global present played by 7.73 million men, women and children – is presented in an innovative way.Visitors can also learn about all 121 World Rugby national unions, understand the variations of the sport and discover the moments that created professionalism, Olympic inclusion and the values that unite the sport from community to elite level. It will also feature in local educational programmes.World Rugby Chairman and Hall of Fame inductee Bill Beaumont said: “The World Rugby Hall of Fame will celebrate the great players and moments as well as outlining the history of the sport from Rugby School and Webb Ellis to the Rugby World Cup 2015.“It is exciting to tell rugby’s story in the place that carries such unique importance for our sport. “We are delighted to be partnering with Rugby Borough Council to deliver an experience that will become a destination for fans from around the world.”WORLD RUGBY OPENS HALL OF FAMEHistory made as FIH elects Indian president On 12 November, India’s Dr Narinder Batra was elected as International Hockey Federation (FIH) President at the 45th FIH Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He is the first Indian to be elected president of an Olympic sport’s International Federation. Previously an Ordinary Member of the FIH Executive Board, Batra has also been at the heart of hockey development in India as president of the sport’s National Association and chairman of the Hockey India League. His four-year term begins immediately, replacing predecessor Leandro Negre from Spain, who was awarded the title of President of Honour.FIS hosts development summer campThe International Ski Federation (FIS) Development Programme Summer Camp for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined was held in Râșnov (Romania) from 26 September to 2 October. The programme focuses on the development of Nordic disciplines in nations that do not have a Nordic skiing tradition, experience and/or facilities, with Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine taking part.
