RBA/NADFAS SCHOLARSEvery year, NADFAS works with the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) to give talented young artists the chance to be displayed in the RBA Annual Exhibition in London’s Mall Galleries – often the fi rst time the students have had such a prestigious opportunity.Societies support the venture by acting as the fi rst stage of the Above Untitled by Claire Thurgood from Piggott School; Below left Coastal by Hannah Blayney from Keswick SchoolCELEBRATING TALENTFor young artists, getting their work shown in galleries is a vital step. Recognition by Societies helps talented students gain exposure in prestigious London locations55 Societies submitted over 350 pieces of work, with 33 pieces selected selection process. Through their links with local schools, they are able to select the best examples of A-Level work for consideration. This year, 55 Societies submitted over 350 images of a diverse collection of work, including paintings, ceramics and sculpture. As ever, the challenge was for the RBA Council members to choose pieces that combined the highest levels of skill, expression and draughtsmanship. The 33 selected works were fi rst shown at the Gallery at Lloyds Register in the City of London for a month as part of the RBA Rising Stars exhibition, then went alongside those of professional RBA artists at the Mall Galleries from March 17–April 2. These youngsters earnt the title of ‘RBA/NADFAS Scholar’ and the best of them won the John Ingram Prize as well. National Chairman June Robinson, comments: “We are so impressed with the ability of these young artists, and delighted that they have this opportunity to showcase their talent to a wider audience. NADFAS seeks to make the arts accessible to all – the students’ inclusion in these exhibitions confi rms our belief that art can be enjoyed, and created, by people of all ages.
