Each year, the Marsh Christian Trust awards volunteers in charities across the UK and beyond who help to improve the world we live in. In recent years, it has partnered with NADFAS, helping to highlight members and Societies with outstanding contributions, which are recognised at the AGM.This year, the Group Winner was Farnham DFAS for its Young Arts projects and Church Trails. Its annual inter-school art exhibition (involving 20 schools and hundreds of artworks), rolling exhibition at Farnham station and series of twilight art sessions for primary school teachers mean that art in its widest sense – and an appreciation of its capacity to enrich our daily lives – is supported and encouraged in schools and in the wider community. An active volunteer for over 20 years, nominations praised her “encyclopaedic” knowledge and leadership skills. One nominee commented: “Anne Haward has made a real difference to the effectiveness of Church Recording and hence to the whole community.”In Young Arts, Jill Donnelly from Huntingdon DFAS was honoured. She is praised for working “tirelessly”, including developing a changing display of children’s artwork at Hinchinbrooke Hospital supported by 20 primary schools and several secondary schools. She has also helped a primary school with a stained glass memorial to Capability Brown, who is buried in nearby Fenstanton. There were two winners in the Heritage Volunteer category. Michael Brasier-Creagh from Ribble & Craven DFAS was chosen for his work conserving books over a period of 19 years and his leadership of the project to catalogue the Edmondson Buck photographic collection in Clitheroe. John Day, an Affi liate member, was recognised because of his custom bookshoes for historic books used in the Bartlett Library of the National Maritime Museum Cornwall – a design so good it has since been included as a technique in the NADFAS Book Conservation Training Programme. ■SUPPORTING ART AND HERITAGEOutstanding volunteer work by Societies and individuals is recognised each year at the NADFAS AGM thanks to a partnership with the Marsh Christian Trust “These awards help to highlight the importance of volunteers to this sector and we are pleased to recognise their outstanding efforts.” BRIAN MARSH CHAIRMAN OF THE MARSH CHRISTIAN TRUSTGroups• Winner: Farnham DFAS• Highly Commended: Budleigh Salterton DFASIndividuals • Young Arts: Jill Donnelly (Huntingdon DFAS)• Church Recording: Anne Haward (Felsted DFAS)• Highly Commended: Barbara Naylor (Windlebrook DFAS) • Heritage Volunteering (joint award): John Day (Affi liate member), Michael Brasier-Creagh (Ribble & Craven DFAS)18 — THE ART OF GIVINGMARSH AWARD WINNERS
