POP-UP POSSIBILITIESSometimes all that is needed to inspire and bring people together is the chance to shine – which is why the Young Arts team at West Sussex DFAS launched their fi rst Pop-Up exhibition as part of the Petworth Festival. The Society invited 19 local primary and preparatory schools to exhibit some of the art their pupils had produced during the year, with 15 schools participating and an astonishing total of over 400 art works on display. Many pieces were based on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which which was performed for children and families (thanks to sponsorship by West Sussex DFAS) as part of the festival. One group of fi ve-year-olds had modelled wizards in clay, and there were spells and hats and charms developed from whole school projects using science experiments and work across the curriculum. From other schools there were gardens inspired by Monet or 3D caricatures crafted in wire. The outcome exceeded the Young Arts team’s expectations. “We were thrilled with the outcome, overwhelmed by the quality and mass of work,” commented Susi Beale from West Sussex DFAS.There was a lot of positive feedback, with one parent saying: “My son really enjoyed seeing his picture displayed. It has also inspired him to do more with his art. Thank you for putting this on.” ■ Opposite page Pupils workingon the windowBelow The fi nished window at Hartismere High School Right Art by pupils in a West Sussex DFAS exhibitionA West Sussex DFAS exhibition showed 400 artworks from 15 schoolswonderful design to fi t the tall narrow windows.
