SONNY BILL WILLIAMSSINCE WINNING HIS SECOND RUGBY WORLD CUP WITH NEW ZEALAND IN 2015, SONNY BILL WILLIAMS HAS TURNED HIS ATTENTION TO RUGBY SEVENS IN ORDER TO FULFIL HIS OLYMPIC DREAM IN RIO DE JANEIROThe thing I love most about rugby is trying to achieve a goal with your team-mates. At the start it seems so distant, but IÕve been fortunate to be part of teams where we have achieved that goal and itÕs just been an unbelievable feeling. ThatÕs the feeling IÕve always wanted to chase. IÕm 30 years old now so I know what works for me, and having something that I really want to achieve helps to light the fire in my belly every day, making me push myself towards that goal. When youÕre with the team, they all become like brothers to you because youÕre training with them every day and having fun, all working towards a common goal.ÓYou would have to say that winning an Olympic medal would supersede all my other achievements. The Olympic Games are where all the best athletes from around the world go. The world stands still when the Games are on, no matter what sport it is.ÓRugby sevens is probably easier on the eye than a 15-a-side game, hence itÕs on the Olympic programme. ItÕs only seven-a-side over 14 minutes with lots of action. It doesnÕt take a rocket scientist to understand whatÕs happening and itÕs a pretty entertaining game, so IÕm sure thereÕll be a lot more rugby fans after the Games.ÓThe main difference between the 15-a-side game and rugby sevens is that you have to be really fit [to play sevens]. Each team has only seven players on the field so thereÕs a lot of space to cover. Defence wins games and you have to have a good connection with the players alongside you. That connection comes from putting the hard yards in when youÕre in the training paddock so you know that the guy on your outside has your back Ð and vice versa.Ó62 OLYMPIC REVIEW ROAD TO RIO
