OLYMPIC REVIEW 21NOCS RECOGNISE INNOVATION WITH 2015 TROPHYEach year since 1985, the IOC has provided a trophy with a specific topical theme. This trophy is made available to each NOC upon request, to be awarded to an individual or organisation in their territory.Awarding the IOC Trophy is an opportunity for NOCs to promote their activities to a wider audience.For 2015, the theme was “Sport and Innovation”. Since December, over 30 IOC Trophies have been awarded to showcase procedures and tools that have increased efficiency or revenues, promoted healthier lifestyles, developed hi-tech equipment and materials, implemented innovative partnerships to improve social conditions or communication strategies to increase awareness of the benefit of sports. Spotlight on… IOC TROPHYAt the end of 2015, the Georgian NOC held its annual meeting where it assessed the year’s activities and summed up its major achievements. As well as delegates of the NOC, honorary guests included the Mayor of Tbilisi, David Narmania, Georgia’s Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Tariel Khechikashvili and Tbilisi City Council Chairman Giorgi Alibegashvili.Attendees received a detailed report on the various activities accomplished by the NOC during 2015, including the successful hosting of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Tbilisi. “The year 2015 was special for the Georgian Olympic Movement,” said NOC President Leri Khabelov. “Our country passed an important exam this summer, hosting the EYOF honourably. According to the evaluation of international sport organisations, representatives of participating countries and observers, the festival was oneof the most successful.”During the session, the NOC also awarded athletes who have qualified for the Olympic Games Rio 2016 with special cards and gifts, while freestyle wrestling world champion Vladimer Khinchegashvili was named the NOC’s athlete of the year.For their special contributionto the organisation of the EYOF, NOC President Leri Khabelov also awarded the Olympic Order of Georgia to Tbilisi Mayor David Narmania, the chairman of the EYOF Tbilisi 2015 Organising Committee, Aleksi Akhvlediani, and the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia, Tariel Khechikashvili. GEORGIAN NOC CELEBRATES ‘SPECIAL’ ACHIEVEMENTSATHLETES ATTEND CAREER SEMINAR IN LITHUANIAIn December, an IOC Athlete Career Programme (ACP) seminar was held in Lithuania for the first time, in cooperation with Adecco. The seminar took place at the headquarters of the Lithuanian NOC and was attended by Olympians, Paralympians and young athletes. Three speakers shared their knowledge and experience, offering practical advice on how to plan for a career after retiring from sport. Mali’s former Olympic basketball player Kadiatou Tounkara, a member of the Athletes’ Commission of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), Adecco consultant Eva Vycitalova and ACP trainee Aya Nakitanda, who represented Uganda at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, all stressed the importance of preparing well for a career after sport.Below Olympian Aya Nakitanda spoke at the ACP seminar Above Georgian athlete of the year Vladimer KhinchegashviliAbove IT company Cisco was awarded the 2015 IOC Trophy for technologies supplied to Team Brazil
