Below Participants get active on Olympic Day in Lausanne on 23 JuneThe Olympic Movement celebrated Olympic Day on 23 June with a host of events designed to get people “off the couch”. The IOC, National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International and National Sports Federations and organising committees of Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games were among those organising programmes intended to get people moving, regardless of age, gender or ability.With so much on offer – Olympic fun runs, sports demonstrations, tournaments, cultural activities and Q&A sessions with Olympians – there was something for everyone.The IOC hosted its traditional Olympic Day celebrations at its headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland). IOC President Thomas Bach delivered a speech on the many positive values of sport and the relationship between the IOC and the city of Lausanne, where the IOC has been based for 100 years. He said: “Every year, Olympic Day allows the whole world to unite behind the Olympic dream. The people of Lausanne also share this dream. It is no coincidence that this city became the Olympic Capital, with all the love it has for sport. The IOC has now had its home in Lausanne for a whole century.” The IOC President spent time visiting the various sports workshops – fencing, artistic gymnastics, slackline and golf – organised in the IOC gardens. Before taking part in the evening celebrations, the President attended a meeting of the IOC-Olympic Capital Commission alongside the Mayor of Lausanne, Daniel Brélaz.From 6 July to 29 November 2015, the Olympic Museum Gallery is hosting a free exhibition – “Get Active” – aimed at youngsters to encourage them to have fun by exercising using everyday household objects.OLYMPIC REVIEW 15
