Created by the French firm Lalique, the 330 medals were all made by hand, with 35 people contributing to the production of each one. The crystal design sets the Olympic rings over an image of a valley. Around it, the medal is decorated with a laurel branch and the text “Albertville 92 – XVI Olympic Winter Games” in English and French. MEDALSThe original Albertville mascot was actually a mountain goat. However, two years before the Games, the goat was put out to pasture and replaced by Magique, the first non-animal Olympic mascot since the Olympic Winter Games Innsbruck 1976. Created by French artist Philippe Mairesse, Magique was a delightful snow imp in the shape of a star and a cube, coloured in red, white and blue to echo the French flag.
