for everyone, especially with the new transport links that are currently being developed.The venues were designed as much around what happens after the Games as during them, and many of them will continue to be used by elite athletes from across the Republic of Korea and Asia. Others will benefi t local residents. For example, Gangneung Ice Arena will become a sport-for-all facility, while Kwandong Hockey Centre will be used by local university students and the general public.In particular, we want to engage the younger generation, and get more of them involved and excited by winter sports. This will be aimed not just at those who attend and experience the amazing atmosphere fi rst-hand, but also those who consume the Games through a range of platforms and social channels.We have realised our dream by being given the honour of hosting the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, and we are now working hard to bring that dream to life. We want to create many more life-changing experiences and open up new horizons for everyone who will be touched by the Games. ■We learned that suffi cient planning, preparation, operational knowledge and experience are very important elements of organising such a large-scale event, and that hosting truly successful Games requires close collaboration with key stakeholders.PyeongChang 2018 is as big for the Republic of Korea as Seoul was for us back in 1988; the difference now is that we are a more developed country. Therefore, our facilities and management will be more sophisticated but our passion will be the same. We saw the impact of Seoul 1988, and we know that, 30 years on, the Olympic Winter Games can have a similarly positive effect on our country, and deliver a strong message of peace and unity around the world.What will be the legacy of the Games?We want PyeongChang 2018 to be the Games that opens up “New Horizons” in the Republic of Korea and across Asia by connecting the great passion of the athletes and spectators. Through this vision, we want to provide a new stage for winter sports in Asia, both for top-level events but also as a winter travel destination for all.
