SPOTLIGHT ON THE CANDIDATE CITIES 2024Paris 2024 will unite and activate communities worldwide in support of Olympism. Already, the Games are being built and shared with the people of France, and beyond. A unique and wide-ranging programme of public engagement has captured the country’s imagination. Thousands attended workshops, enthusiastically sharing ideas, as part of a year-long nationwide tour. Grassroots clubs and associations joined in by staging their own events that resulted in more propositions being shaped and collected, while thousands more contributed ideas via a dedicated website. The programme generated more than 1,000 unique ideas for the 2024 Games. A unique athletes’ app enables Olympians and other elite competitors to contribute real-time insight to the candidature. Top athletes are also central to the Paris 2024 social influence campaign, which has so far delivered 130,000 cumulative followers ahead of a significant push in 2017.Through this strategy, Paris 2024 confirms its will of engaging everyone at the heart of its vision of Games of passion and purpose in a sharing world.From its inception, LA 2024 has engaged the diverse community of Angelenos in the development of its Olympic plans. To ensure every resident has a voice, LA 2024 led more than 30 community forums, including in every Los Angeles city council district. In addition, LA 2024 organises and participates in major community events reaching thousands of Angelenos and millions of Americans. For example, at the 128th Rose Parade, Southern California’s iconic Festival of Flowers & Music, more than 500 volunteers helped build LA 2024’s “Follow the Sun” float, and 700,000 people lined the streets to show support for the candidature and the Olympic legends who rode the float along LOS ANGELESwith young athletes from the LA84 Foundation.Through social media, fans are given the ability to connect with LA 2024 24/7, including experiencing major moments live with candidature leaders and athletes in ways that have never been done before.
