Following its global partnership to provide innovative and sustainable mobility solutions for the Olympic Movement in line with Olympic Agenda 2020, Toyota delivered hybrid cars for the IOC on 19 December. The vehicles use Toyota’s latest hybrid technology, combining the benefits of petrol engines and electric motors to provide sustainable mobility solutions. IOC President Thomas Bach received the cars from Philipp Rhomberg, CEO of Toyota Switzerland, accompanied by Stephane Denis, Fleet Senior Manager, Toyota Motor Europe at the IOC’s headquarters in Lausanne. “This is another step in this exciting partnership, and I am particularly delighted about the new hybrid cars, which is another clear demonstration of the IOC’s commitment towards sustainability,” said President Bach. “I would like to thank Mr Akio Toyoda for his great personal commitment and Mr Rhomberg and his team here in Switzerland, as well as the fleet team in Toyota Motor Europe based in Brussels, for their support in implementing this programme.”Having become a TOP Partner in 2016, Toyota will support the entire Olympic Movement in the mobility category. It will provide sustainable mobility solutions for the Olympic Games to help with low-emission, safer, more efficient mobility, including intelligent transport systems, urban traffic systems and vehicle-to-vehicle communications systems. This long-term partnership follows recommendation 6 of Olympic Agenda 2020 to “cooperate closely with other sports event organisers”.Under the new agreement, the IOC and the IMGA will discuss the possibility for the host cities of the summer and winter Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games to organise the Masters Games in the years following the Games. The two organisations will continue to explore means to promote and encourage mature athletes from all over the world to practise sport regularly.IOC and FISU sign new agreementA Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the IOC and the International University Sports Federation (FISU), whose President is Oleg Matytsin.
