On the front of the medals, the traditional goddess of victory appeared alongside the inscription “XVIth OLYMPIAD MELBOURNE 1956”, while the reverse showed an Olympic champion being held aloft, with the Olympic Stadium in the background. However, for the equestrian events in Stockholm, a different medal design was used, with a horse and rider appearing on the front side and the Olympic rings, torch and motto on the reverse.MEDALSThe emblem for the Olympic Games Melbourne 1956 was composed of an image of Australia, with a torch and the Olympic rings superimposed.
