Olympic Museum opens stadium exhibitionOn 13 October, the Olympic Museum opened its latest exhibition Ð Stadiums Past and Future. The exhibition addresses the stadium through the relationship it maintains, both with the city in which it stands and with the various protagonists involved. It also looks at the role and impact of the stadium Ð and not just from an architectural perspective.Split into three parts, the first zone of the exhibition retraces the long history of the stadium. The Olympic Games London 2012 are the focus of the second zone, as well as sustainability and legacy, while the third zone looks at the legacy of previous editions of the Games, such as Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008. The exhibition will run until 7 May 2017.NEWS IN BRIEFOLYMPIC SUMMIT CALLS FOR REVIEW OF ANTI-DOPING SYSTEMIn October, the leading representatives of the Olympic Movement met in Lausanne for the fifth Olympic Summit. The Summit agreed on in-principle proposals to help create a Òmore robust, more efficient, more transparent and more harmonised WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) anti-doping systemÓ. Among the recommendations were the proposed establishment of a new anti-doping testing authority, to be set up within the framework of WADA. Other recommendations included a call for sanctions relating to doping cases to be delegated to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and for WADA to be given stronger authority over the National Anti-Doping Organisations. Meeting on 10 November, the IOC Executive Board unanimously approved the recommendations of the Summit with regard to reforming the WADA anti-doping system.On 7 November, Dagim Zinabu Tekle was announced as the World Winner of the IOC Women and Sport Awards during a ceremony at the SwissTech Convention Centre in ƒcublens (Switzerland). This is the first time that the trophy for World Winner has been awarded to a man.A sports journalist from Ethiopia, Tekle (pictured above) founded a radio programme dedicated to inspiring women and girls to be more active in sport. In the five years since its launch, the programme has welcomed more than 12,000 guests. Five Continental Trophy Winners were also honoured at the ceremony, which was hosted by Kirsty Coventry, ZimbabweÕs most decorated Olympian, and broadcast on the Olympic Channel. Felicite Rwemarika (Rwanda), Dr Carole Oglesby (USA), Maria Leonor Estampador (Philippines), Majken Maria Gilmartin (Denmark) and Moya Dodd (Australia) were all recognised for their outstanding achievements and contributions to promoting gender equality in sport.On collecting his award, Tekle said: ÒThis IOC award encourages me to dream bigger. I am thinking about creating the first-ever Ethiopian women sport TV show, to raise awareness not only in my country, but also in the neighbouring countries. This award is only the beginning.ÓDAGIM ZINABU TEKLE WINS IOC WOMEN AND SPORT WORLD TROPHYIOC APPOINTS FOUR NEW MEMBERS TO ATHLETES’ COMMISSIONIOC President Thomas Bach has appointed four Olympians as members of the IOC AthletesÕ Commission, following their candidature for the elections of the commission during the Olympic Games Rio 2016, and in consultation with the Chair, Angela Ruggiero. Taekwondo athlete Nadin Dawani (JOR), modern pentathlete Aya Medany (EGY), badminton star Saina Nehwal (IND) and basketball player Luis Scola (ARG) join 16 other members, including four athletes who were recently democratically elected by their peers at Rio 2016 to form the IOC AthletesÕ Commission.ÒOn behalf of the IOC AthletesÕ Commission and as its Chair, I am very pleased to be welcoming four new members to the commission,Ó said Ruggiero.
