15 AugustThe ubiquitous samba beats of Brazil found their way to the Olympic Equestrian Centre, where Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin successfully defended her individual dressage title with her horse Valegro. “It’s only the second time I rode it,” said Dujardin of the duo’s samba-inspired freestyle in the final round, which thrilled fans and judges alike. “It was magical.”While the victory gave Dujardin her second successive Olympic gold medal in the event, Cuban heavyweight wrestler Mijaín López was joining elite company by winning his third Greco-Roman title. The 33-year-old triumphed in the 130kg division to become only the third wrestler, after Russian great Alexander Karelin and Sweden’s Carl Westergren, to win three Olympic Greco-Roman gold medals.“It’s just a tremendous honour because of the level that [Karelin] was at,” López said. “Now, this is my time.”PicturedCuba’s Mijaín López during the men’s Greco-Roman 130kg gold medal boutLeftOn the green during the final round of the men’s golf tournamentDAY10RIO 2016OLYMPIC REVIEW 37
