ITF OUTLINES NEW AGENDAFIS HOSTS 50TH CONGRESS IN MEXICOAt its Annual Conference and AGM in Zagreb (Croatia) on 22 June, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced the creation of a long-term plan for sustainable growth under a new agenda, ITF 2024. ITF President David Haggerty outlined the federationÕs mission to develop, grow and promote tennis around the world through good governance, integrity and trust, inclusiveness, innovation, ambition and collaboration. The ITF identified eight strategic leadership, management and collaboration priorities in order to achieve these goals.From 5 to 10 June, more than 900 delegates gathered in Cancoen for the 50th Congress of the International Ski Federation (FIS), the first-ever FIS Congress staged in Mexico. During its meeting, the FIS Council elected the hosts of several World Championships. The 2020 FIS Ski Flying World Championships will be held in Planica (Slovenia); the 2021 Alpine Skiing World Championships in Cortina dÕAmpezzo (Italy); and the 2021 Nordic Skiing World Championships in Oberstdorf (Germany). The 2021 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships will take place in the Zhangjiakou/Genting (China) resort, which will also host these disciplines during the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.The World Rowing Federation (FISA) has announced that the Thomas Keller Medal for 2016 has been awarded to twin sisters Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell of New Zealand. After winning the World Championships in double sculls the sisters claimed two consecutive Olympic titles, the first at the 2004 Games in Athens, and the second in Beijing four years later. After retiring in 2008 they continued to be a source of inspiration for many New Zealanders, and the growth of high school girlsÕ rowing can in part be attributed to them. The medal was presented by Dominik Keller Ð the son of former FISA President Thomas Keller Ð at the World Rowing Cup in Lucerne (Switzerland).Above Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell with their Olympic gold medals in Athens in 2004Lausanne to host 2019 Triathlon Grand FinalOn 14 June, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) named Lausanne (Switzerland) as the host city for the 31st ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in 2019. In addition to crowning the 2019 ITU world champions, the event will also name world champions in junior and U23 categories, as well as paratriathlon. Official dates for the event will be confirmed and announced as soon as possible. The 2016 ITU Grand Final was held in Cozumel (Mexico) from 11 to 18 September.Dijkema elected ISU PresidentDuring its Congress in Dubrovnik (Croatia) in June, the International Skating Union (ISU) elected Jan Dijkema (the Netherlands) as its President. He succeeds Ottavio Cinquanta (Italy), who led the ISU for 22 years. Dijkema, 72, was previously ISU Vice-President for speed skating.NEWS IN BRIEFEVERS-SWINDELL SISTERS RECEIVE KELLER MEDALNEW ETHICS COMMISSION FOR MODERN PENTATHLONThe International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) has appointed its first Ethics Commission, a three-strong panel that will assist the President and Executive Board on all questions related to good governance. Siegfried Brand, President of the Guatemala Modern Pentathlon Association, will chair the commission and will be joined by members Hiltrud Reder (Germany), formerly one of the longest-serving members of the UIPM Technical Committee, and Angela Ives (Canada), a member of the UIPM Sport for All Commission. All three nominations were proposed by the UIPM President, Klaus Schormann, and approved by the Executive Board.The Executive Board of the UIPM has also confirmed that Shiny Fang has been reappointed as Secretary General for a second Olympic cycle.20 OLYMPIC REVIEW
