Each year it gives grants to some of our most promising young craftspeople to help keep traditional skills alive and assists Societies with their community projectsBRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHERA fascinating collaborative writing project organised by Budleigh Salterton DFAS has boosted cooperation between local schools and made young people more interested in their local community. Supported by the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund, the Budding Creativity project involves children from three primary schools taking it in turns to write and illustrate chapters of an adventure story. Now in its third year, a volunteer author created the characters, setting and story outline for the children to work with. Once all the chapters are completed, he writes the ending – only revealed when the books are published. The three books are part of a series called ‘Heroes of the Jurassic Coast’. The fi rst adventure was set in Budleigh Salterton, in the second ADDING COLOUR The pupils at Great Bowden Academy Primary School in Leicestershire learnt new skillsand created an inspiring batik wallhanging thanks to support from Harborough DFAS. The Society provided a Young Arts grant of £500, matched by the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund, to provide specialist teacher time and equipment.
