A former NADFAS Vice-President, from November 1998 to May 2006, he was perhaps best know for his time at Dulwich Picture Gallery (1979–96). Appointed as its fi rst Director, he helped to bring the gallery to international attention thanks to a loan scheme, but also due to major shows on Poussin, Rembrandt and Van Dyck.In 1983, he helped sow the seeds of the gallery’s highly successful learning programme when he and his Curator John Sheeran held a life drawing class in the permanent collection to help attract schools and colleges. Today, the gallery continues this work with imaginative schemes encompassing many different groups within the community, some in partnership with local NADFAS Societies. After Waterfi eld left Dulwich Picture Gallery he became an author of art-related books and independent Curator, most recently co-organising an exhibition at Gainsborough’s House in Suffolk in October 2015.Left: Giles Waterfi eld died in NovemberObituary: Former Vice-President Giles Waterfi eldNational NewsTwo new faces have joined the staff at NADFAS House in recent months.
