The role played by his wife, Margaret Macdonald, and his collaborators, Frances Macdonald and Herbert MacNair, has also been obscured. The Macdonald girls, who drew on Japanese works of art, the English Arts & Crafts movement and the graphics of Aubrey Beardsley helped to create the Glasgow style. We thank all of them for the time and energy they have devoted to NADFAS and for sharing their scholarship and knowledge with us. We are very sad to report that three of our former lecturers have recently passed away. Ann Peerless spoke knowledgeably about a wide range of subject including the art of India and Vietnam; Peter Gibson’s passion for stained glass, particularly at York Minster where he worked for most of his life, was infectious; Dr Peter Kennedy Scott was an authority on the Norwich School of Painters as well as being very involved as a member of South Suffolk DFAS, the East Anglia Area and the national Training Team. We will remember them all with great affection.Above: Cottage Scene by George Caleb Bingham – the art of American settlers is explored by South West AreaEDUCATION: COURSES www.nadfas.org.uk NADFAS REVIEW / SPRING 2017 23
